Google Workspace Update: Yet Another Reason to Ditch Microsoft 365

Google just announced an update to its collaboration software, Google Workspaces. For those who don’t know, Google Workspaces lets you share your work with others through cloud-based computing, collaborative editing, and document sharing. The new features are aimed at getting more people to use Google Workspaces, so they’re worth looking into if you’re using or looking to use Google Apps for Work or Office 365.

What is Office?

Microsoft Office is a suite of apps that includes Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and others. It’s designed for business use and has many features that make it a great productivity suite. The most recent version of the software is called Office 2016 and was released on September 22nd, 2015. But there are some big changes coming in 2020!

In 2020, Microsoft will release Office 365. This means that people who have an Office 365 subscription will get all of the latest releases as they come out instead of waiting for two years until their next release date. One of the benefits here is that there won’t be any more need to worry about compatibility or other issues when it comes time for upgrading your system.

The Case Against Google Apps

One of the main reasons people are flocking away from Google Apps is the loss of compatibility with Office, which means many users can’t import Word and Excel documents. The company has also been plagued by security concerns as well as customer service issues. And, for many people, the fact that Google Apps requires a Gmail address is a deal-breaker.

It’s easy to see why more and more businesses are turning away from Google Apps in favor of Microsoft 365 and it doesn’t seem like the trend will be reversing anytime soon.

The Case Against Microsoft 365

Microsoft 365 is an all-in-one suite of applications that runs on the cloud. It’s designed for ease of use, with a familiar interface and robust sharing and collaboration tools. And it offers a way for businesses of any size to bring their productivity and security practices into the modern era, with email, calendaring, instant messaging, file storage, and more coming together in one place. But there are plenty of reasons why you might want to look at Google Workspace instead especially now that they’ve just announced an update that makes it even better.

If you’re already invested in a particular suite of apps, such as Google Apps for Work or Office 365, you might not want or need another cloud-based solution. And if that’s your case, Google Workspace isn’t for you. But if you’re open to new possibilities, now’s a great time to check out Google’s offering as they’ve made some key updates that may make it more appealing than Microsoft. Here’s what they announced.

How does Office stack up against GSuite & MS365?

Unlike the Office suite, Google’s GSuite and MS365 are both cloud-based programs that allow you to access your documents from any location. This has been a game changer for me because it means I can work from home without having to carry my laptop around with me.

GSuite and MS365 also provide unlimited storage space for your files and folders, which is a huge plus. They both offer excellent collaboration features as well, which makes working on projects together with coworkers seamless. The only downside of these two programs is that they aren’t compatible with Macs, but there are still plenty of free alternatives on the market if this is something you’re worried about.

Why Office?

Microsoft Office has been the de facto standard for document editing and sharing for a long time, but it’s not without its faults. For example, if you want to insert a photo or image into your document, you need to do it separately from the rest of your content. This is different from Google Docs where you can insert an image into a text box with just one click. The integration between Google Docs and other features like Gmail also makes it worth switching over.
