Born in Kentucky, the native had humble beginnings. His family moved around a lot throughout his childhood and eventually settled down in Miramar Florida. Depp dropped out of high school to pursue his dream of being a musician. His band, The Kids, moved to Los Angeles and split up shortly after. According to the outlet, Nicolas Cage, whom Depp had met through his first wife was what encouraged him to pursue acting.

Depp’s first role in a film was in 1984’s horror film “A Nightmare on Elm Street.” He worked on bits and parts while he was busy, but it was his 1987 TV series “21 Jump Street”, which brought him to stardom. According to reports, Depp was paid $45,000 for each episode. It aired from 1991 to 1991. In the mid-’90s the actor became a sought-after star and began to earn major film salaries. He earned $5 million in 1995 for “Nick of Time.” In 1997, he earned $5 million more for “Nick of Time.”

From there, the paychecks grew in size. He earned $10 million for Depp’s debut as Captain Jack Sparrow, in 2003’s Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. The outlet reported that his base salary for the second installment was $20,000,000. For a total of $60million, he earned an additional $40 million. Depp made $55 million for the third film.

Depp was the Hatter in “Alice in Wonderland” in 2010, which was directed and produced by Tim Burton, a longtime friend. Depp received a low salary and high back-end points for this role that led to a $55million payday. According to the outlet, it is currently one of the 20 highest acting paychecks for a single movie.

Depp also received $15 million for his movie “Rum Diary,” $7.5million for “Rango,” $18million for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” and $20 million for “The Tourist.”

The Management Group managed Depp’s finances for most of his career. Depp filed a lawsuit against The Management Group in 2017 alleging gross mismanagement and outright fraud. Depp claimed that the firm led to him losing tens of thousands of dollars. Depp also claimed that he had accrued more than $40,000,000 in debts without his knowledge. He also claimed that the firm failed him to file his property taxes on time, made unapproved loans, and overpaid for his services, among other claims.

The Management Group retorted. The Management Group claimed that Depp had been spending too much and that his extravagant lifestyle meant that he didn’t have enough cash to pay his $2 million monthly expenses. According to the firm, it was Depp’s reckless spending that caused such high-interest debts.

Depp was paid $16million to appear in the 3rd installment of “Fantastic Beasts.” But, Warner Bros. fired Depp amid the Heard lawsuit. His contract obliged the studio to pay Depp regardless of the circumstances. He eventually earned $16 million.

Depp also reportedly retained a $5 million contract with Dior for the role of Sauvage in their advertisements.

Depp’s supporters have spoken out in support of him, claiming he was falsely accused. Depp continued to pursue work in Hollywood, despite his financial and personal drama. Depp is currently voicing Johnny Puff on the TV miniseries, “Puffins,” and “Puffins Improbable.” IMDB noted that his untitled film about Louis XV was in preproduction.

Heard and Depp was married in 2015. After Depp agreed to pay Heard $7,000,000, their divorce was finalized in 2017. She Heard stated that she would donate the funds to two charities.
